From time to time, people tell
                    me,
"lighten up, it's just a dog"
or, "that's a lot of money for
              just a dog"
   They don't understand the
            distance traveled
the time spent, or the costs
           involved for
"just a dog."  Some of my
proudest moments have come
     about with "just a dog"
Many hours have passed and
my only company was "just a
                   dog"
but I did not once feel
                  slighted.
          Some of my saddest
    moments have been brought
about by "just a dog," and in
      those days of darkness, the
gentle touch of "just a dog"
      gave me comfort and reason
            to overcome the day.
If you, too, think its "just a
                       dog,"
        then you will probably
            understand phrases
like "just a friend," "just a
                   sunrise," or
             "just a promise"
"Just a dog" brings into my
            life the very essence
      of friendship, trust, and pure
               unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the
                compassion and
           patience that make me a
                   better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will
                         rise early,
            take long walks and look
             longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me,
                  it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the
                    hopes and dreams
                  of the future, the fond
                   memories of the past,
and the pure joy of the
                              moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's
                       good in me and
              diverts my thoughts away
                 from myself and the
                   worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can
                        understand that
                    it's not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me
                      humanity and keeps
me from being "just a man"
So the next time you hear the
                         phrase "just a dog"
                 just smile, cause they "just
                         don't understand

                         DEFINITION OF A BREEDER

A breeder is one who thirsts for knowledge and never really knows it all and doesn't pretend he does....
One who wrestles with decisions of conscience,
convenience and commitment....
A breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests,
finances, time, fancy furniture and deep pile carpeting...
He gives up the dreams of a long, luxurious vacation in
favor of turning that spare room inot a wonderful puppy
room.... Besides, who would watch the dogs while
he was gone...
He goes without sleep ( but never without coffee ) in
hours spent planning a breeding or watching anxiously
over the birth process and afterwards, over every little
sneeze, wiggle and cry....
He skips dinner parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed at eight....
He disregards birth fluids and does mouth to mouth to save a gasping new-born, literally blowing life into a tiny,
helpless creature that he knows will fulfill someone's
dreams....
His lap is a marvelous place where generations of happy, healthy and much adored furbabies have snoozed .... And still do....
His hands are strong and firm, but ever so gentle and sensitive to the thrusts of a puppy's wet nose....
His back and knees are usually arthritic from stooping,
bending and sitting in the birthing box, but are strong
enough to enable him to play on the floor with that
rascally bunch at 5 weeks olds....
His shoulders are stooped and often heaped with abuse from unkind words of those who don't understand, but,
they're wide enough to support the weight of a thousand
"Thank-You's" from the happy new families....
His arms are always able to wield a mop, support an
armful of puppies or lend a helping hand to a newcomer.... but can't hold grudges or hold onto unpleasant ridicule....
His ears are wondrous things, sometimes red ( from being pressed against a phone receiver, ) yet always fine-tuned to the wimper of a sick puppy or the distant rain that urges him to get the furbabies in from the upcoming bad weather....
His eyes may be blurred from Pedigree Research, but
they are ever so keen to what a healthy, happy puppy looks and acts like....
His brain is sometimes foggy on faces, but it can recall
how many were in a litter four years ago that produced
a cetain puppy....
It's so full of knowledge that sometimes it blows a fuse:
It catalogues hundreds  of colors, sizes and perfect
temperaments....
His heart is sometimes broken but it beats strongly with hope everlasting.... and it's always in the right place !!!
Oh, yes there are breeders, and then there are
BREEDERS.

                    Sleeping with your Dog

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-sized bed is soft and deep.
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move !!!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food !!!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I"m a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
this human person that I see.
the one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night !!!
